 POSITION TITLE: Medical Billing Manager
Grade on structure: M3
Reporting To : Hospital Services Manager

Mwaiwathu Private Hospital invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the above-mentioned position. The position will report to the Hospital Services Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Overseeing the operations of the billing department ensuring charges are captured, claims are submitted and follow ups are made in a timely fashion.
  2. Analyzing billing and claims for accuracy and completeness and ensuring submission of accurate claims to proper insurance entities and following up on any issues.
  3. Ensuring that activities of the billing operations are conducted in a manner that is consistent with overall department protocol and are in compliance with the payer’s regulations, guidelines, and requirements.
  4. Supervising billing staff which includes work allocation, training, problem resolution, evaluating performance and making recommendations for staff actions that would motivate staff to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  5. Reviewing and resolving issues related to claim generations, rejected and denied billings.
  6. Participating in the development and implementation of operating policies and procedures.
  7. Analyzing trends impacting charges, collection of accounts receivable and take appropriate action to realign staff and revise policies and procedures
  8. Coordinating team member time off in a manner that does not negatively impact necessary daily functions.
  9. Appropriate and professional communication with insurance entities and patients on issues of bills.
  10. Maintaining contacts with other departments to obtain and analyse additional patient information to document and process bills.
  11. Timely production of periodic reports to management that are used for decision making.
  12. Weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual production of reports to management that are used for decision making.
  13. Any other duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and Skills

  1. A University Degree in Business Administration, Management, Economics, Accounting, Health Systems Management and/or Health related field.
  2. Specialized computer knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft office ware
  3. Expert knowledge of billing software programs like trimed and pastel
  4. Health care billing, experience in claims processing, handling and collections experience in a medical practice or health system
  5. Problem solving abilities and a strong presence of mind

Requisite knowledge, Abilities and skill

  1. Strong computing skills and an ability to learn new computing systems fairly and quickly.
  2. Sound presentation and training skills as the billing manager is responsible for training staff.
  3. Strong Mathematics skills.
  4. Excellent communication skills and team working
  5. High level attention to detail and Accuracy
  6. High level Integrity and honesty
  7. Good command of English and fluency in other Malawian local languages

Key Performance Areas (KPA)

  1. Days in receivables outstanding(DRO)
  2. Receivables Outstanding over 30 days
  3. Net collection rate
  4. Cash revenue
