1. Evacuation and Ambulances Services
The Hospital is close to the airport which facilitates evacuation to and from the Hospital.
The Medical Aid Society of Malawi (MASM) operates ambulance services called MASM Emergency Medical Service (EMS). This service comprises a system of care for victims of sudden and serious injury or illness

2. Accommodation
Accommodation is also available at hotel and lodges which are in close proximity to the Hospital. Out patients, guardians and visitors will need to make their own arrangements.
3. Chaplaincy
Pastoral Care services, as an integral part of the health care team, are available at the hospital and offer a unique service that recognizes the emotional, spiritual and religious needs of the patients.
4. Travel Assistance
Taxis are available only on request through our main reception, but at own expense.
5. Foreign Exchange Bureaus
The Hospital accepts payment of bills in foreign currency (GBP, USD, ZAR and EURO). Use of visa and other credit cards is also acceptable. Bureaus are available and are within reach in Blantyre City. Banks and cash points (Auto Teller Machines) are also in close proximity to the Hospital.
6. Parking
The hospital has extensive and exclusive parking lot.
7. Kiosk
The Hospital Kiosk caters for most of the basic needs and is open from 07:00 hrs to 18:00 hrs, 7 days a week.
8. Telephone
There are telephones which use prepaid cards located at convenient places within the hospital where patients and visitors can make personal calls. Prepaid telephone cards can be bought from the hospital’s main reception.
9. Security
The hospital has well trained and disciplined security guards who man the premises 24/7.
10. Visiting Hours
Mwaiwathu hospital appreciates the need for our patients to have visitors. Visiting hours are as follows:
Morning: 06:30 hrs to 07:30 hrs
Afternoon: 12:00 hrs to 13:00 hrs
Evening: 17.30 hrs to 19:30 hrs
Four visitors per patient in the general ward and maternity ward are allowed per time. In the ICU two visitors per patient is the rule. In the maternity ward one’s own children are allowed to visit the mother and the new born baby.
11. Patients Liaison Office
The Hospital has the Patient Liaison Office (PLO) to assist clients in situations where they want to discuss their concerns in private. Some of the functions of the Office include:
- Assist with any specific needs clients may have while in the hospital.
- Answer client’s questions regarding services, policies and procedures.
- Ensure client’s complaints are treated with confidentiality.
- Listen to client’s concerns, suggestions and experiences and address them to the people who design and manage services.
- Handle all customer / patient relations issues.
